Sen. Mitch McConnel , an 84-year-old former GOP Senate leader, is still in the hospital after paramedics were summoned to his house in mid-June due to reports of an unconscious individual, and questions are mounting for his staff.

Despite the lack of updates on Mitch McConnel ‘s status from his office, his supporters in the Republican Senate leadership insist that the senator will resume his duties. However, rumors are starting to circulate in Washington, D.C., and the senator’s detractors have already started to doubt if his condition is being reported truthfully.

Laura Loomer, an activist for MAGA, entered the conversation on Monday.
The Kentucky senator was “brain dead” and “not coming back” to Washington, according to a “high level source close to the White House,” according to Loomer, a far-right conspiracy theorist with a lengthy history of making racist remarks and supporting strange lies.

Although Loomer’s problems with credibility are widely documented, her ties to Donald Trump’s White House are just as solid. Last year, she helped Trump remove members of the National Security Council that she believed to be disloyal. She was last seen in the White House last month.

“As he continues to heal in the hospital, Senator Mitch McConnel is grateful for the outpouring of support. A representative for the senator’s office informed news outlets last week that the senator is still doing well and is collaborating closely with his staff on Senate and Kentucky issues when the Senate is not in session. As he continues to heal in the hospital, Senator McConnell is grateful for the outpouring of support,” his office added.
On Capitol Hill, McConnell’s standing is a contentious issue. After a severe fall on the Hill in early 2025, his general health is obviously deteriorating, and he now frequently uses a wheelchair to navigate the Capitol. He seldom interacts with reporters in the Capitol complex and no longer frequently shows up or makes remarks at Republican news conferences, a weekly fixture on the Hill. He stated last year that he will not seek reelection in 2028, stepping aside from leadership and creating a contest for his seat in Kentucky, which is heavily red.

According to dispatch recordings that The Washington Post was able to obtain, paramedics who were sent to his residence on June 14 reported administering CPR to a person who was experiencing cardiac arrest.
However, he continues to be a sharp-edged political personality in the upper house. After taking over as Senate leader, McConnell has become somewhat of a Senate maverick, disagreeing with Donald Trump and the White House more often than most of his peers and occasionally adopting awkward positions (and votes) that his successor as GOP Senate leader, John Thune, and the GOP caucus use to communicate with the White House.
A few weeks before to his hospitalization, in late May, one of those notes was sent. Mitch McConnel and the majority of the GOP Senate caucus attended a lunchtime meeting with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche as the DOJ chief attempted to make one final pitch to senators regarding a $1.776 billion fund intended to assist victims of Joe Biden’s alleged “weaponization” of the Department of Justice, including, crucially, convicted rioters who attacked law enforcement on January 6.
Senators and Blanche engaged in a heated argument during the discussion, and Mitch McConnel later emphasized the Senate GOP’s objection to requiring senators to support such a clause during an election year.
“So the highest law enforcement official in the country is requesting a slush fund to compensate those who attack police officers? At the time, the former GOP leader declared, “It’s morally wrong and utterly stupid. You can choose.”Mitch McConnel
